Google’s Hugo Barra will join China’s Xiaomi

Googles Hugo Barra will join Chinas Xiaomi

Hugo Barra, vice president of product development for Google’s Android division is heading to China, joining Xiaomi, a fast growing China-based phone maker.

Barra said in his Google+ account, “In a few weeks, I’ll be joining the Xiaomi team in China to help them expand their incredible product portfolio and business globally — as Vice President, Xiaomi Global,” and adds “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem.”

It is believed that the reason for Barra’s departure is related to a romantic relationship with another Googler, though there are no confirmations. His departure follows that of Andy Rubin, Android founder who left to work on other Google projects in March 2013.
