Google confirms Android Kit Kat

Google’s Sundar Pichai revealed that the next Android operating system will be called Android Kitkat. The giant Kit Kat bar Android statue has joined the rest of the bunch on the lawn at Google HQ in Mountain View.

Here’s the official statement via the official Android website :

“Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!”

John Lagerling, head of global partnerships said, ‘We realised that very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie. One of the snacks that we keep in our kitchen for late-night coding are KitKats. And someone said: ‘Hey, why don’t we call the release KitKat?’ There wasn’t any money involved in the deal between the Android and Kit Kat brands. “This is not a money-changing-hands type of deal,” John Lagerling confirms.

The new update will be named Android 4.4 but there’s no words on when the update will be released.
