Litecoin Mining with Radeon R9 280X
Lately, i have been pretty busy with Litecoin mining, and spent most of the time looking for GPUs as i intend to try out most of the brands out there, for the R9 280X model anyway. I have got my hands on quite a number of it, and have been tweaking with CGMiner configuration for Sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte, PowerColor, ASUS as well as HIS.
As you can see from my early testing on some of the cards:
- Radeon R9 280X Litecoin mining and Sweet Spot for 700KHash/sec (part 1)
- Radeon R9 280X Litecoin Mining and Sweet Spot for 700KHash/sec (Part 2)
The result is pretty constant with above 700KHash/sec on most cards, and Sapphire is reaching as high as 760KHash/sec. Surprisingly though, PowerColor reached a hashrate which is pretty close to the Sapphire card, albeit running at a higher temperature.
I’m using BAMT for all my testings and in order to reach higher hashrate for the R9 280X cards, the drivers need to be updated in order for it to be able to detect R9 series cards. I am planning to compile BAMT with the latest drivers installed and release it for download. Then, i will post the CGMiner configurations for each and every R9 280X card.
For the time being, it looks like R9 280X is still the one to get if you are in to Scrypt mining as the start up cost for R9 290 and R9 290X are significantly higher compared to the hashrate produced.
